Hi Kris, one thing I totally forgot to ask you about the CarPad F6 and the Galaxy Note 2 is if these both have actual working Play Store app and if Skype video calls work on them? In fact, do any of the Chinese mobile phones have both these things working on them? Noone seems to bother to mention these things in the reviews. I’ve asked the vendors these question but they answer in an ambiguous way that Skype works, and not replying to specifically about the video calls that I asked. As far as Google Play Store is concerned, some buyers commented that it’s some kind of Chinese android market store or the app goes to the store but gives error when downloading apps from there. I hope you clear this confusion of mine cause this could be a deal breaker for me. Thanks a bunch :)

    1. Hello! I have tried Google Play Store with some Jiayu and HDC phones and they did not have any problems with downloading as well as Skype video calls. Well, there are a few apps that will be marked as incompatible when you try to download them because some apps are labeled in Google Play Store as compatible only for Samsung, LG, and other famous android phones. It does not really mean they won’t run in Chinese phones. It simply means Play Store could not find the specific Chinese phone in its list of compatible devices. You can still install the “incompatible apps” by downloading the apps from another website and installing them on your SD card through the file manager. But if you want a more permanent solution, you can root the phone and modify the build.prop. This makes Play Store think the Chinese phone is a Samsung and allows it to download the apps. You can search the rooting procedure in Google.

BTW Kris, when they say Android Market (using it’s old name) and not Play Store as it’s known now, what do they mean by that? Is there a difference between the two? I asked fastcardtech about the CarPad F6, and they replied that it does not have a real working Play Store. Is rooting the phone and modifying the build.prop the solution to this problem? I’m sorry to bother you time and again with my queries. Thanks again :)

    1. Usually Android Market and Google Play store mean the same thing for the Chinese merchants. They are just used to in saying Android Market even though the new name for it is Google Play Store. As for CarPad F6 having no Play Store, I can’t confirm that since I have not tried CarPad phones. If that is indeed true, rooting the phone can address this problem. You can install Google Play Store app and modify the build.prop for app compatibility. Or you can look for other phones that have working Google Play Store so you won’t have to root it.
