China Phone Review – Why Buy China?

Welcome to my personal blog China Phone Review! This website contains lists and reviews of different gadgets from the China mobile phone industry. Here, we’ll find out which cheap cell phones are actually worth buying.

Why did I choose to review Chinese cell phones? Let me tell you my story. I have owned many phones in the past with famous brands like Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung, and LG. They were quite expensive, but I thought they were worth it anyway. When I saw the phones from China, I always looked down on them. My impression with Chinese phones was not good. I saw them as having very poor quality. But as time went by, I saw more people buying these types of phones. I myself was intrigued. And with the recent economic crisis, I thought maybe these gadgets are not so bad after all.

My curiosity with Chinese cell phones grew. When I had to give up my good old Nokia 5310, I thought of buying a dual sim China phone because I planned to use 2 sim cards at the same time. However I ended up buying an LG GX300 since it was also dual sim and it comes from a big company, LG. Unfortunately, my experience with that phone was horrible. It was so slow and its features were just average that I decided to buy another cell phone. This time I bought a dual sim MyPhone QW-28 which is from a Filipino company (rebranded phone from China) and it was much better than LG GX300 and costs cheaper too. It also came with a Yamaha audio chip that every time I play music on my cell phone, it was loud enough and the sound quality was amazing. I was also very satisfied with the speed it handled the applications. It even had WiFi! All these features were not present on my LG.

With that said, I never looked at China phones the same way again. Yes, there are a lot of junk out there but with the help of some research, we can find some high quality China mobile phones. This is the aim of China Phone Review. If you think it’s like finding a needle in a haystack, then we’ll search that needle until we succeed. Then we won’t have to buy expensive gadgets from big companies ever again!

All I need now is a reliable reseller of e.g. Xiaomi M2, or other high end phones.

    1. Thanks Barry! Xiaomi M2 is due to be released this October. I’m sure you’ll find some reliable resellers by then.

Hi Kris, hope everything’s great at your end. Well finally I placed an order for a CarPad Note5 F6 from FCT a few days ago. I just wanted to know that since you exclusively name them as an outlet to buy from and you’ve said that you bought many phones from them, that they’re 100% legit and can buy from them with no worries, so how come there many negative reviews about them VS the positive reviews? Is it miscommunication on the buyer’s/seller’s part or something? What’s the story? Thanks : )

    1. Hi Xander! Mostly it is miscommunication for both the buyer and seller. Language may be the biggest barrier when buying phones from Chinese shops. So when buying phones from China, make sure to use simple English. Also, due to the massive demand of Chinese phones these days, popular Chinese online shops like Fastcardtech sometimes cannot keep up with the endless orders. Supplies go out of stock occasionally. But I’m sure they are working on improving their services. By the way congrats with your purchase and I hope you are satisfied with your phone.

    1. Hi! For me, I prefer Jiayu G3. It looks more appealing to me and it is a reliable brand. But Star B92M has good specs too. It’s just a matter of personal preference. Follow your heart. =)

    Hey Kris,

Found your site after having some disappointing experience with a well spec Chinese phone on eBay (S9920) but only to find out how over rated it actually was. The Camera was nothing like it was advertised!

Anyways, I read your story above and was wondering how did you afford 2 Sim Cards and purchase 2 phones in the recent economic times? I may be over analyzing it so pardon my directness.

    PS Bookmarked

    1. Hi Critter!

Well, you have bought an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) phone which is like a generic phone in China. These are rebranded by several small companies in China and sold with different names and slightly different configurations, but essentially the same phone. However, the phone you bought is the “raw” OEM phone which was sold by the factory itself, meaning it was not purchased by any company for rebranding and no customizations or optimizations were done on it.

If you want quality Chinese phones, go for those brands with their own factories, like Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, Meizu, ZTE, and Jiayu. These companies have their own research and development departments and they design their own phones. I don’t recommend buying phones advertised with only model numbers and no brand names, like “S9920”. These phones just copy the designs of other popular brands with low quality materials. Also, be careful when buying at eBay since some irresponsible sellers advertise their items with inaccurate specifications in order to attract many buyers.

Anyway, in our country, buying many SIM cards is not a problem since prepaid SIMs are so cheap that you can actually change SIMs everyday if you want to. I bought the second phone only after several months of being unsatisfied with using the previous one. But I sold the old phone to my friend first so I could buy the new and cheaper one.
