With the recent unveiling of their latest flagship smartphone One M9 at the Mobile World Congress, HTC is planning to launch two much cheaper versions of the phone in China soon. HTC has announced that the Chinese market will receive a “special” product launch. The company aims to release two high-end smartphone models, which are reportedly named HTC One M9 Plus and HTC One E9.
The international release of HTC One M9 (also known as HTC M9 or HTC One Hima) was well-received by the smartphone community. However, the price is a bit high for many people. To address this issue, HTC is developing special editions of the handset with attractive prices to cater to many more consumers. The company is making some adjustments on the new models to make them more affordable without taking away the essence of the M9.
HTC M9 Plus rumored specs
HTC M9 Plus reportedly will have a slightly bigger 5.2-inch screen with ultra-HD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels), 3GB memory and 32GB internal phone storage, 20.7 megapixel camera + UltraPixel (some sources say 13.0 megapixel camera will be used), and HTC’s own Sense UI 7.0 as operating system which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
One major change foreseen is that HTC M9 Plus may opt for MediaTek’s MT6795 (Helio X10) 64 Bit Octa core flagship processor, although it is still unclear whether or not they will retain the Snapdragon 810 CPU. MediaTek has highly recommended the high-end MT6795 for excellent performance. Another change is that the phone may not have fingerprint identification. It also has a physical Home button as suggested by some leaked images of the phone.
HTC M9 Plus leaked photos:
Leaked HTC M9 Plus pictures above reveal that the phone has a similar shape with the M9. However, it can be seen that the front has a new oval-shaped Home button at the bottom part, with the two front speakers at its sides. Furthermore, the rear camera is round, which suggests light accommodation is doubled.
HTC E9 rumored specs
Another model, the HTC One E9, also uses Sense 7.0 UI along with a MediaTek platform. Multiple leaked photos of parts of HTC One E9 suggests that the phone continues to utilize a sleek design with curved corners and front dual speakers. However, the mobile phone will not be equipped with a metal body. It is covered instead with a plastic shell.
HTC One E9 Leaked Images:
Early reports reveal that HTC One E9 will utilize a 5.5-inch 2K display, MT6795 octa-core CPU, 3GB RAM, 20.7 megapixel camera and Android 5.0-based Sense 7.0 operating system. The phone will have several versions, namely HTC E9t, HTC E9pt and HTC E9pw. The first two will support TD-LTE / TD-SCDMA / GSM, while E9pw will support five dual-mode 4G networks (FDD-LTE included).
Price and date of launch
There is no reliable information for the price and release date of HTC One M9 Plus yet but it is expected to cost less than the M9. On the other hand, HTC One E9 is reportedly priced at 2,999 RMB or around US$480. HTC E9 could be launched in China either later this month or on April.
