Lenovo A65 Review

Lenovo A65 is just an upgrade of Lenovo A60. The main difference between the two android smartphones is the processor. The A60 has MT6573 650MHz as its CPU while the A65 has a faster MT6573+ 800MHz processor. With an upgraded CPU, you can expect the A65 to run applications faster than its predecessor.

Lenovo A65

Click here for the specifications of Lenovo A65

Another variation between the two phones is the slight modification of the A65 with its appearance. As you can see from the photos above, Lenovo A65’s buttons are designed in a stylish way and the labels are placed on the physical buttons themselves.

One weakness of the phone is the lack of a front camera. If a front camera is indispensable for you, then this phone is not for you.

With regards to all the other specs, I can say that they are identical with the A60’s. I will not elaborate them here anymore but you can read my previous post Lenovo A60 Review for more details.

Now you might be wondering how much the price is. Lenovo A60 costs US$138, and with the upgraded CPU, you may think the A65 is much more expensive than that. However, it’s actually the opposite. The Lenovo A65 sells at only US$128. It costs lesser than its predecessor even though it has an enhanced CPU speed because of the lack of a front-facing camera. But overall, I believe it’s a great deal for a smartphone with such features, considering it has a very affordable price. I would definitely recommend this phone to people who want cost-effective gadgets.

    Hi Kris,

Great job with the website! :)

I am shopping for a cheap smartphone and have my eye on this Lenovo A65. Do you know if the phone allows access to Google Play? I have heard that some Chinese smartphones only allow you to download limited apps from the brand’s own apps store.

    1. Hello Sanda! Thanks for visiting my site! Do not worry because Lenovo A65 is pre-installed with Google Play at Fastcardtech, which means you can use Android Market immediately. Tip for online shoppers: it is important to note that some Chinese phones may not have Google Play preinstalled in the factory, so if you are shopping online for Chinese Android phones, always confirm with the seller whether or not it has Google Play. If not, you can ask the seller to install it when you order. If you are an advanced Android user, you can install it by yourself by downloading the necessary files and installing them for free.

      Best of luck,

hi can i install other programs on this phone? apps that doesn’t not requiring for a driver because most of china phones doesn’t have drivers its so hassle to look for the drivers on the net. and is it compatible for all the applications of a normal android phone comparing to samsung?

        1. Hello! Yes you can install other programs on this phone without the need for drivers. It is compatible with the usual android applications. Plus if you root it, you can fully customize it. Lenovo A65 is a versatile phone. It can run just about anything that is compatible with Android 2.3.

ohhhh nice my type of phone i hope its a new turn around for lenovo from
laptop to mobile. So is their a full english root for this phone? is it as sensitive
as samsung phones when drop on the floor?
and lastly this phone supports every android games in the market?
because if this phone will not fail me i would recommend it to my friend.

          1. Lenovo’s gadgets are quite durable but I would not know how it copes if it is dropped on the floor. About rooting it, check out this forum: Rooting Lenovo A60. It has English instructions for rooting Lenovo A60, which is similar to Lenovo A65. This phone supports most, if not all android games in the market, but games with heavy 3D graphics may not run very smoothly.

    1. Instagram works in this phone. You can use Skype-to-Skype call and chat but Skype video calling does not work. Lenovo A65 has no front camera but you can use the back camera for video calling using Yahoo! Messenger, Tango, and Fring.

    Hi Kris,

My boyfriend just gave me Lenovo A65. Along with the phone is a smart bro sim pack loaded with 100 pesos load. But seems that I am not able to use the internet. I followed all the instruction on how to connect to the internet, but I am a failure. I even called the service provider of smart to discuss the matter. They say that my number is already activated for gprs/mms. Please help me, how can i connect to the internet.
One more thing, I have inserted my old sim to the second sim slot in my lenovo, but I just can’t send a message with my sim2.. How can I send message with my sim2?

    1. Hello Marga! The problem could either be your phone’s hardware or your network. I’m afraid I can’t be of any help since it is a technical matter. I suggest that you bring your phone to a Smart center so that they can properly configure the settings. You can also ask the assistance of your phone’s vendor or service center. Your phone is under warranty so services should be free of charge.

If you want to know more about your phone or ask others who own the same phone, visit this forum from the Philippines: Rooting Lenovo A60. It contains information about rooting the Lenovo A60 which is also applicable to the Lenovo A65. You can also visit this thread for Lenovo A65 owners in the Philippines: Lenovo A65. You can ask the other owners about your problem.

Does anyone have an idea about Lenovo A65 battery life? how long could it stay on with 2 sims on standby and just plain texting?

    1. With light usage (few calls and texts), a fully charged battery can go up to 4 days with two sims on standby.

thanks Kris . . I am thinking of having my A65 replaced due to factory defects. my brand new A65 last for 1 day only . . I can’t believe it, i am not even using it for games, wifi or video. . However, when i asked the salesperson He said that I am already lucky for having the phone staying on for a day. Hate that guy! I knew it, the manual won’t lie. .

        1. Your welcome! You should ask for a replacement, either for the battery or for the phone itself if it is really defective. The battery lasts 1 day if you are a heavy internet user or gamer. But for basic cellphone use, it should last more than 2 days.

    Hi Kris,
What else the edge of Lenovo A65 compare to Alcatel Blaze Glory 918N? Aside from 800mhtz of A65 if this is made from china how sure are you that this passed the quality control as I experience many made in china has no quality control. I am now comparing those phones if what should I buy. Hope you could help me to decide what to buy? Thanks

    1. Hi! Looking at Alcatel Blaze Glory’s specs, they are almost the same with the Lenovo A65, except for slight advantage of the 800MHz CPU and 512MB ROM of the A65. Also, I like the looks of the A65 more.

As to quality, I can assure you that Lenovo is a big company with good quality control. They bought the company IBM and they are known for their laptops and computers. If you have seen the latest Transformers movie, Lenovo computers were featured in the film. As for Alcatel, I don’t know much about their company or their phones. So judging from the specs and the brand, I’d select Lenovo A65 hands down.

    1. You can update this phone with the latest version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread if you root it. It cannot be upgraded to ICS. It may not be suitable to play the latest 3D games on the A65 but it can still run games like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit smoothly.

    thank you, and more power.

    1. Hi! How long does your battery last when you are using it for texting or calling only? WiFi drains the battery fast. If your battery lasts for 2 or more days without using the WiFi, then it’s normal. But if it lasts only 1 day with light to moderate use, I believe you have a faulty battery and you should have it replaced. It has warranty anyway.

    1. Hi! It seems strange that your phone has no signal for sim 2. Try exchanging your two sims on the two sim slots or use only sim 1. If it still doesn’t have any signal, you need to bring it to the shop where you bought it. You can have your unit replaced, since it is under warranty.

    1. Hi! In my opinion, Lenovo A65 is already outdated. It is good but there are many smartphones out there that have better value than the A65. For instance, the Chinese android phone Jiayu G2 has way better specs and the price is not too far from the A65. You can also check out other phones that are featured in my website. If they are not available in your country, try buying them online. It’s easy actually. I bought Jiayu G2 from an online store and I had no regrets with it. My friends actually envy it. It has high-end specs with a very affordable price.

    1. It would depend on your preferences. In my opinion, Lenovo A65 has slightly better specs than Samsung Galaxy Y. The A65 is already dual sim and has bigger internal memory. It also has a bigger screen, better screen resolution and has a higher back camera resolution. Even though on paper, the Galaxy Y has a faster CPU speed but I’ve read that the A65’s MT6573 CPU is actually the more efficient performer among the two.

The A65 has WiFi and you can install Instagram and Pushmail.

    1. Hello! It would depend on your usage. It should last 2 or more days with basic phone use like text messages and some calls. But if you always use internet, play games, or watch movies, the battery will last only several hours to one day. This is normal for all smartphones. Turn off your wifi, gps, and bluetooth if you are not using it to save energy.

If I would install apps that are over 50MB, is it still possible?

how can i transfer saved musics from my phone (lenovo a65) to other phones through bluetooth..
there is no problem with picture sharings.. only in musics..

    1. I don’t know if your bluetooth is defective. Try sharing music one file at a time or try sharing music to other bluetooth devices like your computer. If it does not work, try going back to the shop that sold you the phone and ask for repair or replacement. I assume your phone is under warranty.

Hi there. Just brought my Lenovo A65. Just a question, is there a way on how to save downloaded applications from Playstore directly to SD card? thanks

    1. Hello! You can install the app App2SD. It transfers your downloaded apps automatically to your SD card.

Hi again.. Why did my Lenovo A65 only has 220mb internal/ phone storage? I thought it was 512mb? thanks..

        1. Hello! It has 512 MB total ROM but only 220 MB can be used for actual storage. The rest is used by the phone’s operating system.

    hi Kris,

i bought the phone around 2 months ago and its working fine. I just have 2 questions. 1. Can we upgrade the android version? and 2. I just bought a new sim so i can optimize its dual sim capability (sun , Globe) but after a few texts,i cant seem to send messages on my sun network. Im currently on always ask (on sim settings). When i tried to just use the sun network,it seems to work. Please advise. thank you

    1. Hi! I don’t think you can upgrade to Android 4.0 because A65’s RAM is insufficient. About your second question, I don’t know what is causing the problem. Maybe it is a factory defect? Have your phone checked by the shop where you bought it or at Lenovo’s service center near your area. You can have it repaired or replaced.

I bought a Lenovo a60+ mobile only 2 weeks ago and I have observed that I have to charge daily though I seldom use it, only for txt and call but not always. Tried to refer to the store where I bought the unit and was told that it is normal to a smartphone battery to last only 1 day even w/o heavy usage. I also observed that there are running applications like google+, maps, gmail, setting etc. tried to close them but will activate again after awhile. Is this the reason why my battery is used up? Or is my battery defective? If on the applications, how do I deactivate these auto running programs?
Thanks a lot for the kind help.

    1. You can download apps like App Killer or Task Killer. But I do think your battery is defective. A fully-charged battery should last up to 3 days with light to moderate use.

    1. Hi Marlon! I’m not sure where you can get this phone near your town. Try looking at your local cellphone shops. If it is not available in your area, try searching local online shops that deliver to your location.

hi , can u tell me how to root lenovo a65 ?? and can it play pro evolution soccer and fifa

    1. Hi! You can search the steps on rooting Lenovo A65 on Google. Just search “how to root Lenovo A65″. You will find many websites that outline the steps in rooting your phone. I don’t know if it can play those games that you mentioned. If those are heavy 3D games, they may not run smoothly or they may not run at all.

i just bought it and why it can’t play angry bird starwar or angry bird space , sometimes i play some 2d games and it very lag . can you tell me why? although CPU 800Mhz empty ram :>100mb (i’m Vietnamese)

        1. The applications Link2SD and App2SD may help save some internal phone memory and minimize lags. You can download them on Google Play Store. You can also root your phone and install custom ROMs to improve its performance.

          Hi Thap,
I am Vietnamese too and have the same problem when play angry bird. May be A65 is Android verson 2.3.5 while angry bird version is 3.1 or 3.2 so it take long time to loading when we play this game?
          Kris Amora, Is that true?

          1. A65 is Android 2.3. I am not sure of the minimum requirements of Angry Birds Star Wars. Perhaps it is not compatible with Android 2.3.

What are the weaknesses of lenovo a65? as of today? i’ve heard a lot of negative feedback about this phone.

    1. Hi! Lenovo A65 is already an old model. There may be some apps that will not be compatible with this phone. There are many newer Lenovo phones today. You might want to take a look at them.
